You need your official SSI award letter from the Social Security Administration — not just your benefit statement. If you don't have your original, call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to request a new benefit verification letter.

Check for Medicaid as a Second Qualifier

Most SSI recipients also receive Medicaid. If so, you have two qualifying programs. Either your SSI letter OR your Medicaid documentation can serve as proof of eligibility.

Apply for Lifeline

Visit LifelineSupport.org or apply through a provider. Upload your SSI award letter when prompted for "proof of program participation."

SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is a direct Lifeline qualifier. SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) is NOT listed as a qualifying program on its own — however, SSDI recipients often also receive Medicaid or SSI, which do qualify.
